Panorama Mountain Village is located in the Purcell Mountain Range, west of the Rocky Mountain Trench. The resort was originally community based when locals were looking for a location to develop a ski hill, circa 1959. Since then, this self contained ski in – ski out resort boasts the biggest terrain park in the Kootenay Rockies, as well as a large beginners’ area. The ski terrain is varied with access to more than 2800 acres of skiable terrain, serviced by 9 lifts.
Panorama offers deep powder downhill skiing and snowboarding, with 4000 feet of vertical terrain and night skiing available from late December onwards. The area also lends itself well to cross-country skiing at the Greywolf Nordic centre, guided snowshoe walks through the forests, heli-skiing and snowmobiling, with various operators offering hire of equipment, tours and tuition. Toby Creek Adventures have a variety of options for full and half day snowmobiling and ATV packages, offering an ideal opportunity to spot local wildlife.
The free Mountain and Valley Shuttle Bus to Invermere – running several times per day through the ski season – offers access to various restaurants, shops, cafés and art galleries in town. There are skating trails on Windermere Lake, giving a unique feel to this winter wonderland! Panorama heralds in New Years with a spectacular evening complete with torch light parade and fireworks!
During the summer months, visitors can avail themselves of excellent hiking, mountain bike and horseback trails, along with golf at the award winning Greywolf 18 hole course. On hot days, why not go for a swim in one of the many lakes in the area, where the water is cool and clear with unparalleled views of the mountains? The Toby Creek provides adventure with white water rafting, or try out your skills on the golf course at Greywolf, another place to take in the spectacular views. For the more energetic, check out the mountain bike park at Panorama, where the Mile One Quad lift allows access to an amazing 20 trails for a variety of terrain, suitable for beginners and experts alike, complete with constructed stunts.
